Editor’s Note:
At Moreno Ranches, we believe in the future. Part of that future is superior genetics and the constant improvement of the Brahman cattle breed through sophisticated animal husbandry technology. Technology is part of that future, a passion for the Brahman breed is part of that future, and so are our youth. As such, we’d like to introduce one of our new international interns, Jesús Armuelles.
Jesús Armuelles was born on September 28, 1999, in Santiago, Veraguas, Panama. He grew up in a small town called El Rincon de Las Palmas, where he also studied from elementary through high school. He is the third of a family of four children. He is currently in the last quarter of his bachelor’s degree in agronomy at the Pan-American Agricultural School, Zamorano.
His parents have dedicated most of their lives to subsistence farming and ranching, providing as much as possible for the family’s education and livelihood. His education and training, both primary and secondary, have been agricultural, and Jesús has always stood out for being a responsible person, with an ability to apply himself and cope with adversity, but above all, having a love for agriculture and livestock. These qualities have led him to excel and obtain a full scholarship to realize his dream of studying at the Zamorano University of Honduras.
Being from a rural area and having no resources, it was difficult for him to continue studying once he finished high school. He had to wait a year to apply to Zamorano University with a scholarship that would cover all his studies. During that year, Jesús worked in construction. Therefore, Jesús is aware of the trust placed in him by the sponsoring institution; he has strived to excel academically and disciplinarily, demonstrating values and professionalism. Likewise, Jesús stands out for his excellent personal relationships, being known by his professors and peers for being a hard worker and for always having a positive attitude towards his duties.
Growing up working on his family’s farm, having an agricultural background, and having worked in construction has made Jesús an excellent worker and allowed him to easily adapt to the teaching-learning system at Zamorano University. The personal and professional training he has received at Zamorano gives him the confidence to do an excellent job during his internship. The fact that his knowledge and skills will be put to the test on the job motivates him to do his best.
Jesús is very excited about the idea of doing his internship in the USA, as it is a great opportunity to put his knowledge into practice, gain experience, and at the same time, get to know different technologies, production systems, and cultures (in addition to improving his English). He hopes to learn many new things that he can then apply in his life and thus fulfill all of his goals. Jesús feels very fortunate to be in the internship program and is excited about the experience ahead. He is ready to make the most of this opportunity, confident that he will perform satisfactorily.
Jesus’s Goals:
- Learn new techniques of production and genetic improvement in the cattle sector.
- Gain real-work experience with a good quality job.
- Enrich English skills and learn more about the culture of The United States.
