At Moreno Ranches, we believe in the future. Part of that future is superior genetics and the constant improvement of the Brahman cattle breed through sophisticated animal husbandry technology. Technology is part of that future, a passion for the Brahman breed is part of that future, and so are our youth. As such, we’d like to introduce one of our new international interns, Joakin Moran.
Joakin Moran (Ecuador) – 2021 International Intern
Joakin Moran was born in 1997 in Vinces, Ecuador, a small town on the Ecuadorian coast belonging to the province of Los Rios. From a very young age he was an outstanding student and was recognized as being a very proficient speaker. Since Joakin came from a very traditional cattle family, at the age of 10 he began to collaborate with his family doing farm tasks such as cleaning the barn, milking cows, and feeding cattle. Two years later, he started a small sheep-raising business in order to pay for his school expenses and to help out his family financially. He has a great fondness for music, sticking out with singing and guitar playing. At the age of 14, he attended the music conservatory school where he realized that besides the countryside, his passion was music. However, he could not finish his musical studies due to his work responsibilities he had with his family. Nevertheless, he continued to dabble in music becoming part of a church choir and later to be the main vocalist.
He comes from a modest family devoted to Christianity. His most important figure in his life is his father who is a veterinarian and is one of the greatest influences he has towards wanting to pursue the agricultural, livestock, and sports sector. Since he was a child, his father taught him many values and above all to love what he does having being assigned many responsibilities at an early age. His family is fond of boating competitions, specifically outboard racing. Joakin is the 4th generation in his family to practice this sport.
His family has had many financial obstacles, causing them to be unable to support him in pursuing his dreams; however, that has not been an issue for him. At the age of 20, he began his studies at Zamorano thanks to obtaining a partial scholarship. Today he is very close to graduating from his university and is happy to be accepted to the Moreno Ranches internship because he considers it to be an ideal place to acquire the knowledge and use of new technologies that he could implement in Ecuador to revolutionize the beef cattle industry that has being declining. Above all else, Joakin is a very active person that likes to learn every day and knows that he will do his best to complete his responsibilities and learn from his mistakes in order to become a professional and help his family back in Ecuador.
Joakin’s Goals:
- Acquire skills in artificial insemination and reproductive management.
- Learn how to wean and halter break young calves and prepare them for exhibition.
- Learn the different nutritional requirements for replacement heifers, donors, developing bulls, and receipts for embryo transplant.
